Are you a deep sleeper? For me, I sometimes have a hard time falling asleep when I’m not flying solo into dreamland. However, normally once I can hear that my bed buddy is sawing logs, I’m off to the deepest sleep imaginable. In fact, I’ve found the same thing works for other folks as far as feeling relaxed.

When I hear that the other person isn’t falling into slumber straightaway, I fake breath as if I’ve already drifted away until I hear that mirrored sleeping sound from the other side of the bed so I too can get some shut-eye. It’s a slight nocturnal manipulation on my part.

As far as strange sleeping behavior, I’ve mostly encountered sleep talkers. I once dated a Croatian who would sit bolt upright in the middle of the night look directly at me and let loose a stream of the mother tongue in which I had only learned to say ‘I love you.’

The next morning, the night’s events were always denied but with never saying ‘I love you’ in English, denial was a given. I remember hearing un verifiable story that Anglo-Saxons during the Middle Ages found swearing in foreign languages less offensive. Hence, the phrase, ‘pardon my French.’ Wow, how I’ve digressed.

Now, back to sleep. According to Asian News International (08/09/06), Hillary Snyder of Des Moines Iowa after taking a painkiller with a sleeping pill, later woke up to discover her boyfriend had tattooed a five-pointed star onto her ankle. She had previously refused to be inked despite his pressing her to cement their commitment by getting a tattoo that matched one of his own.

The investigation is continuing but a police reports calls the incidence domestic assault. Meanwhile, Hillary takes it in stride, “At least he didn’t flub it up (meaning the tattoo). I mean it’s not like he beat me up. There were no bruises or blood or anything. I’m just not going to see him again.”

I wouldn’t be so sure that she won’t encounter him again if she keeps taking painkillers with sleeping pills, she might want to reconsider that habit before she decides she has her life back on track.
