I’m still haven’t quit so it’s always refreshing to hear someone young and self-important remind me of why I started in the first place. A smoker who believes that she’s not addicted, that’s it is fun to do and that ever-growing anti-social sentiment only makes it cooler too. I guess it’s time to accept that the day may never come when smoking is back to not being taboo.

When you do something as unwise as smoking, you hope for someone respected to tell you that you’re not a fool to choose cool over school. Somebody special to say that somehow it’s okay to ignore common sense and surgeon generals’ warnings. We’ll have to settle for someone not so respectable albeit “special” to let us know that as smoking goes, “That’s hot.”

I didn’t really believe that Paris Hilton could be any less appealing to parents as a role model for young daughters but thanks to an article in the Female First UK (05/01/06), she reveals another revelation online as damaging as ex-boyfriend porn has been to her reputation as a good example for girls.

Paris proudly proclaims, “Smoking is so sexy. It’s like so cool how you all smoke everywhere in the UK.”

I guess deep thoughts aren’t culled from the shallow depths of someone who puts the ‘lite’ back into socialite. Besides, at 24 years old she must be convinced she’s a survivor. She’s stretched fifteen minutes of fame into a successful career of club hopping and shopping for how many years straight now without breaking a nail or going into rehab.

Moreover, if inhaling all those spray-on tan and peroxide bleach fumes on a near daily basis hasn’t made her life-threateningly asthmatic, her lungs must be made of Teflon. Fresh oxygen intake seems “like” optional to maintain her current level of brain function anyway.

Nevertheless, despite winning an Ugly in the recent Good, Bad and Ugly awards for females in advertising for her Carl’s Jr. burger commercial, for me seeing Paris in that skimpy swimsuit stil makes the beef juicy and if she were leaning against my Bentley, it’d be pointing up quite straightly… afterwards, we’d smoke a cigarette.
