Do you ever hear a story that you know is supposed to be heartwarming but it just ends up sounding cheesy and unromantic? I do, all the time and it makes me feel better about my own love life, where generally romance has been limited to sexually charged emails about what dirty things are going to happen the next time I meet whomever I’m dating.

I suppose I’m as much to blame for it as anyone since with my porn-related job people expect that no matter what I say is meant as a double entendre. At any rate, realistically I’ve found mutual lust more often than true love in life.

Nevertheless, if I was ever going to propose marriage to someone, I think I’d know what the most appropriate setting was. Generally, I would not think of the boudoir as the ideal place given its somewhat sexual connotation. You know what they say. It doesn’t count for anything if someone says he or she loves you during sex or when drunk.

That’s why when I read the proposal story online at Star Pulse of actress Jeri Ryan, first made famous by her role as Seven of Nine on Star Trek Voyager in which she wore a rather form fitting uniform, I had to chuckle. She’s marrying a French chef, Christopher Eme who co-owns a successful West Hollywood eatery with her called Ortolan.

Jeri described the details of Christopher proposing at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, California explaining, “He brought me home, covered my eyes and took me up to the bedroom. He had candles lit everywhere and champagne on ice. He had gotten this huge canvas and painted it with words that said in French ‘And you come with me forever.’”

If you know a bit about the French, you’ll understand that his original message about being together forever takes on the suggestive spin only when translated too literally. Nevertheless, it’s makes me giggle as he seems to make a rather tall tantric promise of endless mutual orgasm which is quite a feat even in the language of love.

For most, Trekkies, coming even just briefly with Ryan would be the ultimate Vulcan mind meld.
