It’s all in the tone
BDSM is multi-dimensional. As with just about everything, I often look upon playing out a responsible scene, especially for a Dom/Domme to be somewhat of an art that’s more akin to acting then to anything else. I’m in no way suggesting that a person plays an unreal role in their sessions with a much loved pet or slave, but rather that there is much more that goes into a role-play than simply the pleasures of fetish, flesh and power-dynamics.
For example, sometimes, I come across really poor S/m video sites that make me roll my eyes or almost recoil in disappointment, disgust or embarrassment, and mainly because the Domme/Dom can’t seem to use their voice. It’s incredible how important vocal tone can be to a successful and believable scene. A poorly played session is obvious when it’s in front of you in a movie, not because of the visual, but rather because of the sounds.
The tone of voice and the language used has always been of utmost importance to me. In life and especially in BDSM videos, when a command is given it must be completely devoid of inflection as to be unpredictably cold, imbued with a severity that demands it be acted upon, or sometimes even with a mockingly flippant tone in order to humiliate. (There are many ways to deliver an order or comment and not simply those I’ve mentioned). When I hear someone command or attempt to verbally humiliate a submissive on some sites, it’s almost like watching a comedy.
Fortunately, there are other times when I come across sites like WhippedAss that offer scenes and sessions that are so well played out, that it almost feels as if everything about it is real. Whether scenes are scripted or improvised, each of the Dommes that I’ve viewed on that site know what it takes to deliver a command or demand, and this is one of the more important features that go a long way toward believability, especially in a BDSM video.
No matter what a scene is, and whether or not the Domme/Dom is a skilled Master or inexperienced beginner, their tone of voice must suit the emotion you want to elicit, and must match the command or comment to work successfully, not only for the submissives sake, but in movies, for the sake of those of us watching.
