If you heard, the name Stocking Stars without reading how it was written you might mistakenly believe it was devoted to crazed fans stalking their favorite celebrities. Instead, of course, it’s devoted to women wearing all kinds of stockings, such as, fishnets, garters, thigh-high and more. I love the shape of a woman’s leg being highlighted by the sheen of silken hosiery, or the stretchiness of mesh against their flesh.

I sometimes think that it’s a shame that few women wear anything on their legs as of late. The stars these days seldom appear with anything against their gams except a fake and bake, or spray on tan. Some can pull it off, since enough yoga, or Pilates makes calf muscles and thighs quite delightful. However, since generally they’re scrawnier, many celebrities could use the contour enhancement of some shiny nylon.

Obviously, it’s partly understandable given the fact that Hollywood is in sunny California, so one could imagine that added insulation isn’t needed on the streets of LA. However, we see starlets in jeans loads of times and even occasionally faux furs, so the temperature can’t really be the true factor at work. It’s just that times have changed.

Many years ago, women during World War II went to the extreme of wearing leg makeup and painting lines to look like hosiery seams on the backs of their legs, so that they appeared to be wearing stockings. Before, the advent of nylon, silk had been used to make hosiery and its use was limited during wartime to make parachutes and other military supplies. Later, once nylon polymers could be refined to thin enough to make parachutes, they realized hosiery could use it, instead of silk too.

It made for a much more affordable product that more and more women bought. That is until it seems recently when I rarely see a woman under 50 wearing them. I even actually while trying to find info about the old painted legs during the war found a few sites advertising leg makeup as alternative to cover spider veins and other blemishes on the legs, so that you could avoid pantyhose.

Coming back to the subject of stalking stars and stars in stockings, on gossip blog What Would Tyler Durden Do one celeb is wearing fishnet stockings. She’s hardly the style icon to bring anything back into fashion. Nevertheless, God bless Britney Spears for trying her best in her cowboy boots, hot pants, a bright red one-piece swimsuit and fishy hose with more than few holes. One in fact from the rear appears to be just about at her crotch. Brit’s the classiest, or at least, one of the craziest.
