Bad Boys Do Cheers

We’ve all thought it before at one time or another, even if it’s not considered politically correct. Sometimes you see a man or a woman doing something as a career or pastime and you can’t help but make certain assumptions about which way his pendulum swings or her clock is wound. Stereotyping and gender profiling is never always accurate but common enough even with the most open-minded of individuals.

It might seem a harmless habit but it can be hard for a man or a woman to have people making comments about his or her sexuality that don’t reflect reality. Young men especially may feel they’re masculinity is threatened and resort to extreme measures to demonstrate that they are indeed straight and manly.

All too often, although equally stereotypical and presumptuous to assume, the so-called masculine man is portrayed as an ill-mannered sexist pig. As a result, some young guys searching to affirm their masculinity seem to think it requires tipping the machismo scales way into the obnoxious jackass territory. Behaving like pussy-obsessed aggressive brutes hitting on anything in a skirt and saying how much they want to bang this, that and the other, as long as it’s female.

Case in point, according to The Smoking Gun (06/23/06) website, a West Virginia coed is suing Marshall University for discrimination after having to quit the squad and give up her cheerleading scholarship after numerous forms of sexual harassment at the hands of the male members of the cheerleading team and no intervention from her female coach to stop them.

To summarize briefly the girls in the troupe were regularly referred to as bitches, cunts and whores. Breasts and genitalia were regularly fondled and groped while male cheerleaders often exposed their dicks and even rubbed their balls “tea bagging” style on their female teammates’ heads while practicing cheers. The female coach of the squad gave sexually explicit names to cheers, such as “Bearded Clam,” “More Head” and “String of Pearls” the last in fact was not called out but signaled for by her simulating masturbation.

There are plenty more details in the 7-page lawsuit but let’s just say that if the allegations are true then these cheerleading dudes make the average drunken frat brother seem like a gentleman in comparison. We get it boys, you have the biggest pom-poms and the largest batons as well as the smallest brains. I envisions the next Bring It On sequel being a courtroom drama instead of a comedy.
