Porn Trials Written by: Steve, 02/22/2006
Adult sites try many different angles to entice surfers to join. One of the
most popular in recent years has been the trial membership. Paysites that generally
cost around $30 a month to join will give you access to their wares for somewhere
between $1 and $5. In return, you get the pleasure of seeing what’s behind
door number one without the risk of coughing up the full amount. It sounds like
a good deal, doesn’t it? It certainly seems to take the risk out of buying
porn online. Despite the appearance of a deal, the reality may be a little different.
Some adult paysites throw
limits on you when you signup for a trial, such as curbing the amount of content
you can access.
Some do this by monitoring your bandwidth. You can log into the site but you
may find that your ability to download stops before the trial runs out. A similarly
deceptive trick involves sites that let you look, but not touch. They do this
by limiting the number of episodes you can download to your computer. It’s
the digital equivalent of having the rug pulled out from under you and you may
find it a little harder to handle if you you’re not prepared for it.
Other problems with three-day trials arise when it comes to billing. The trials
can seem risk-free compared to a full month’s membership. This isn’t
always as it seems as trials are generally set to rebill once the trial period
is up. If you are caught napping, you may find yourself with a membership to
a site that you really didn’t take the time to explore.
The biggest billing issues
involve sites that offer three day trials that require you to cancel your membership
a couple of days before the end of the term.
This means that you may only have one day to cancel your three-day trial membership.
Wait until the third day and you may find yourself locked in for another month.
Some sites have been known to charge trial members more than others once the
trial period is up so that $30 membership could end up costing you $40 if you’re
not careful. The final issue to watch out for when it comes to billing involves
those little checkmark boxes at the bottom of some signup forms. Some sites
include pre-checked boxes with memberships to other sites. You may sign up for
a three-day trial to one site but find yourself with one or more memberships
to different sites that you never consciously asked for. There is very little
recourse when you find yourself in these situations so be pay attention when
you’re getting ready to pay.
You should know that some sites actually offer what you would imagine a three-day
trial would entail. You can sign up, download as much and as fast as your Internet
connection and hard drive can handle and cancel within 72 hours without any
hassle whatsoever. When it comes to adult sites, it just pays to be aware of
what’s out there. Three-day trials are meant to be a good way to ensure
there’s value for your money and if you know what issues you face before
signing up, you will be better prepared to take advantage of their benefits.
In cases where sites do offer trials,
we clearly state on the review whether it is limited or not.
